Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the difficulty encountered by Sudanese EFL learner in using and understanding synonyms and antonyms. the study aims to: help English teachers to be aware of their learners. Needs a refer as synonyms and antonyms are concerned, show English teachers importance of both relation, enrich students of English with proper vocabularies of synonyms and antonyms and support syllabus designers with selective vocabularies of both relations. The study used quantitative method it was also descriptive method and analytical. The sample of the study was limited to the second year students of English department in college of arts in Alnilain University, the sample had been chosen randomly as fifty second year students of English. The result of the study student have problem in using and understanding synonyms and antonyms. researcher recommend as following: students of English should refer to the dictionary of synonyms and antonyms and should consult the New advanced Cambirdge learner,s dictionary with CD Rome inside.
