dc.description.abstract Metabolic Syndrome is a serious medical condition with increase incidence of multiple cancers risk, has effects on the life quality. And it is a problem found all over the world and Sudan, and it is fatal unless controlled and treated properly . The study was conducted to asses plasma calcium and potassium levels in patients with metabolic syndrome. One.Hundred blood samples(50control and50cases(age ranged between(42- 85 ) years were collected during period from June to september2018,chosen randomly from Zenam Medical Center and Samir Medical Center in Khartoum State, and 50 apparently healthy individuals serve as control group. Automated chemical methods were used to estimate plasma calcium and potassium levels (mindary) and results were analyzed using statistical package for social science (SPSS version 20) computer program . The study showed that, decreased mean of potassium, increased mean of( calcium , WC and BMI for cases versus control(4.3±0.4versus 4.4±0.4 m mol/l p value 0.194) (9.4±0.03versus 9.2±0.2mgldl,pvalue 0.419))and 102.2±15.2 versus 79.2±2.7 cm p value( 0.000)and (30.2±7 versus 22.7± 12kglm2,pvalue( 0.000).respectively. Also there was insignificant difference between calcium and potassium levels in males and females (9.5±0.3) (9.4±0.3)(p value 0.416 (4.2±0.4) (4.3±0.4) (p value 0.197) respectively. The study also showed that there was no correlation between calcium level and age ,BMI ,duration of disease ,WC among metabolic syndrome group (r=0.022,pvalue 0.879),(r=-0.001,p value0.993)(r=-0.029,p value 0.841)(r=0.099,p value 0.494)respectively. The study also showed there was no correlation between potassium level and age ,BMI, duration of disease ,WC, calcium level(r=-0.112 ,p value0.439)(r=-0.086,p value 0.550)(r=0.132,p value 0.362 )(r=0.053,p value 0.714)(r=0.082,p value 0.573)respectively . It is concluded that, the plasma calcium level was in significantly increased and plasma potassium was in significantly decreased in metabolic syndrome patients. en_US
