Abstract:
The purpose of this descriptive analytic study to investigate the relationship between Placenta Thickness (PT) and Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW) in normal Sudanese pregnant ladies, the data was collected from Alsoudy and Omdurman Maternity Hospitals from July to November 2018; sixty one pregnant ladies in second and third trimesters were scanned. Fetal weight was estimated by measuring of Biparital Diameter (BPD), Abdominal Circumference (AC) and Femur Length (FL), Placenta Thickness (PT) was measured in longitudinal section at the level of umbilical cord insertion.
The data analyzed by using Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS). Results of the study showed that there was strong positive correlation between placenta thickness and estimated fetal weight (r = 0.78) and (p=0.01) and both are firmly increased with fetal age. The study showed that every 1mm increase in placenta thickness, the fetal weight increased by 135gm. Also the study found that, there is positive linear correlation between placenta thickness and placenta grading (r = 0.61), another study can be conducted by increasing number of samples for proving the efficiency of these study.
