Abstract:
The similarities in customs and traditions between the Igbo community in Nigeria and the Darfurians in the Sudan are the leading purpose of this study. Notably the people in the two aforementioned communities share many similarities in different aspects of cultural life. Inspite of these similarities some differences between the two cultural systems, values and religious beliefs are cross-collated, tallied so that a broad image for both communities is created. In that data pertaining customs, traditions and cultural values is collected. To this end a descriptive and analytic approach is adopted to conduct this research. So, in this work the researcher uses the descriptive method to explain to what extent Igbo community is similar to or different from Darfur community in terms of their cultures, values and experiences with colonialism.
The study came to a number of findings, the most important of which are: The findings of this study have a number of important indications, for instance, both Sudanese and Nigerian people are multicultural communities, so the two communities share resemblance in values and norms, language, respect of elders and hospitality.
Based on the results reached the study forwarded some recommendations to help students of English literature, linguistics, history, religious, and comparative studies to take up researches on the cultural and linguistic aspects of the life of the Darfurian people of Sudan and the similar African communities.
