Development and Design of Safety Management Form in Construction Projects in Khartoum State

Abstract

Construction sites are generally complex and sometimes unsafe. They are complexbecause of extensive use of sophisticated plants, equipment, modern methods ofconstruction, multidisciplinary and multitasked aspects of its project workforce.Generally, construction sites are still one of the most dangerous workplacesBecauseof high incidence of accidents. This research aims to the study of the reality of safety management in Khartoum state, by presenting the basic and the main elements of knowledge, training, resources, equipment andmanagement commitment upper and the legal framework. The current reality of the construction companies andengineering projects under implementation was studied andwhich had been viewed through a set of questions andorganized through the research tool such as, the questionnaire and the results analysis which obtained were analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social and Science (SPSS). The research result from the observation at the construction sites shows that the lack of a awareness aboutthe important of safety performance security during the work, beside, the commitment of senior management is too weak todevelop and arrange programs of safety and following-up theirimplementation in spite of the a senior management agreementabout the importance and necessity of safety, and also the lack of organization structure, particularly in the safety managementand security with the lack of laws knowledge, security andsafety which is not activated efficiently and sufficiently, as opposed to the result of questionnaire. A special Form was developed for safety management in construction sites in Khartoum state. The research concluded that from this study, by making special recommendations for the sector of construction in Khartoum statewhich included the activation of laws that concerned securityand safety in the field of construction sector and to carry out more seminars and workshops, besides the participation oflarge number of companies to reflect and shows the importanceof safety and the consequent of their negative and positive effect of the construction projects.
