Length-Weight Relationships and Condition Factor of Four Fish Species from Merowe Lake

Abstract

This study aimed to investigatedthe length-weight relationships and condition factor of four commercial fish species: Oreochromis niloticus .Labeo niloticus, lates niloticus and Bagrus bayad from Merowe reservoir. 100 fish from each species were collected from the landings sites Merowe reservoir captured by different nets with different mesh sizes during July2018. Scientific names for each species were checked with the www.fishbase.com.Total length (TL), standard length (SL) were measured to the nearest centimeter (cm) and body weight (W) was recorded in nearest gram (g). The sex of each species was determined by external sexual dimorphism. Length-weight relationships for the four species were calculated using the equation: W=aLb they were found to be W=0.19L2.6, W=0.07L2.7 W=0,01L3.34and0.035L2.76 respectively. The condition factor was determined by using the equation:K=Wx100/L3and it was found to be more than one for each species.The results of length-weight relation analyses showed that three fish species Oreochromis niloticus ,Labeo niloticus and Bagrus bayad in this study showed negative allometric growth pattern(p>0.05) indicated by the growth coefficient (b<3). While Latesniloticus which shows positive allometric growth pattern with regression exponent(b)values more than (b>3). While the correlation coefficients(R2)obtained ranged fromo.8414to o.937 revealed ahigh degree of positive correlation.Thecondition factors (k)of thefour fish species were found to be (K>1)it implied that they were in a good health condition. The results of this study provide basic information on WLRs and K value of four species in the study; they may contribute to this invaluable database. And they would be useful for fishery biologists and mangers to impose adequate regulations for sustainable fishery management in the study area. هدفت هذه الدراسة الي ايجاد علاقة الطول والوزن وعامل الحالة لاربعة انواع من الاسماك التجارية في بحيرة سد مروي والاانواع هي البلطي النيلي, الدبس النيلي, العجل النيلي والبياض. تم جمع 100 سمكة لكل نوع من مناطق الانزال بالبحيرة و تم صيدها بواسطة انواع مختلفة من ادوات الصيد خلال يوليو 2018 م تم قياس الطول الكلي والقياسي لاقرب سم, كما تم تسجيل وزن الاسماك لاقرب جرام .تم تحديد الجنس عن طريق ازدواج الشكل الجنس الخارجي . نم حساب علاقة الطول بالوزن للانواع الاربعة باستخدام المعادلة :-W=a Lb والتي وجدت للانواع الاربعة كالاتي6 W=0.07L2.7, W=0.19L2.، W= 0.01L3.34 W= 0,035L2.8لكل من البلطي النيلي, الدبس النيلي, العجل النيلي والبياض علي التوالي كما تم تحديد معامل الحالة باستخدام المعادلة : K=Wx100\L3 والذي وجد اكثر من 1 لكل نوع من الانواع الاربعة.اوضحت نتائج تحليل علاقة الطول بالوزن ان ثلاثة انواع من الاسماك ( البلطي النيلي ,الدبس النيلي والبياض) اظهرت نمو متناسق سلبي اشير اليه بواسطة المعامل الاسي(b<3) . بينما اظهرالعجل النيلي نمو متناسق ايجابي اشير اليه بواسطةالمعامل الاسي (b<3).بينما ان معامل الارتباط (R2) تم الحصول عليه في المدي بين 0,937- 0,841 التي اظهرت درجة عالية من الارتباط الايجابي .ايضا اظهر التحليل ان معامل الحالة للاربعة انواع اكبر من الواحد ممايوحي بانها بحالة صحية جيدة. النتائج من هذه الدراسة وفرت معلومات اساسية عن علاقة الطول بالوزن ومعامل الحالة لاربعة انواع من الاسماك في بحيرة سد مروي , ايضا تساهم النتيجة الحالية في وضع قاعدة بيانات هذه التي لاتقدر بثمن, علاوة علي ذلك سيكون من المفيد لعلماء الاحياء ومدراء المصايد علي ان يفرضوا لوائح وقوانيين مناسبة للادارة المستدامة لمصايد الاسماك في هذه البحيرة.
