Abstract:
This was cross section study carried out in Khartoum Bahri Teaching
Hospital at ultrasound department in obstetrical and gynecologic
emergency department, during the period from September 2018 to
October 2018, in the ultrasonographic fetal biometry the humerus length
it's not used in routine scan for estimation of gestational age .The aim of
study was to estimate the gestational age using humerus length. 80
healthy singleton pregnant women, in second and third trimester
underwent ultrasound exam of pregnancy all went known LMP date and
regular menstrual cycle, with normal fetus. The collected data contain the
date of last menusteral period, the day of doing the ultrasound scan, bi
partial diameter, femur length, humerus length, gestational age by
biparietal diameter, gestational age by femur length. The data analysis
using spss package and excel program. The results showed There was a
strong positive correlation between gestational age (last menstrual period)
and humeral length (r =0.963), FL(r=.991) and BPD(r= .979). Also strong
correlation exists between humerus length and gestational age using
femoral length and BPD (r=0.971), (r=951) respectively.
The study concluded that humerus length can be reliable for estimation of
gestational age so, when it difficult or impossible to obtain reliable FL, Hl
is alternative parameter to estimate the gestational age.
