Abstract:
This was a descriptive cross sectional study carried out in Khartoum State –Sudan 2018, the study aimed to assess the non alcoholic fatty liver disease among Sudanese adults using ultrasonography. There were one hundred cases of age ranged from 30 – 93 years old (50 patients had non alcoholic fatty liver disease and 50 patients had normal liver), any patient with an alcoholic fatty liver disease or other liver diseases was excluded from this study. The liver was evaluate in all patient in sagiral section trans abdominal scanning was done for all cases using ESAOTE pie medical Aquila – Japanese company (3.5 – 5MHz), and DP50 (China) multi-frequency curvilinear probe (3.5 – 5MHz) and sonoscope ultrasound machine model – simians (3.5 – 5MHz). the data collected by data collection sheet and analized by SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). This study showed high prevalence of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in female comparing to male(80% of the diseased group are female), and there is strong relation between the increase in Body Mass Index and the presence of non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (the average of Body Mass Index in the diseased group =32,2 kg\m2). Also the study showed that most of cases are mild fatty liver disease (70%) while (20%) are moderate and (10%) are sever. Diabetes Mellitus presence (Diabetes Mellitus patients in diseased group is 80%), and high standard of living(60% of diseased group have high standard of living). But the study showed there is no strong relationship between the Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and smoking status (only 16% in the diseased group). Or hypertension. Study recommended that farther studies should be done with increased number of sample and introduced other factors that result in non alcoholic fatty liver disease.
