Abstract:
This study aimed at exploring The Role of Visual literacy in teaching English language Vocabulary. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method. The researcher used a questionnaire, the interview and observation as for collecting data. The population of the study consisted teachers of English language from Sudanese Secondary Schools; experts in teaching English language from Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) and third year English language students at (SUST). The data has been analyzed with SSPS program using descriptive and non-parametric methods. Some results include: using visual literacy in English language classrooms as a tool for teaching English vocabulary can help students in using and practice new vocabulary, it can help teachers to facilities explanation of the meaning of new vocabulary, it is also can enhance teaching process.
Based on the results, the researchers recommended the following: English language teachers should take into account the importance of using visual literacy in teaching English language vocabulary at all levels; English language teachers should be aware of the role of visual object especially pictures in teaching English vocabulary, Students should be encouraged to know how to interpret visual literacy in their English classrooms; because it facilitate in understanding and using new vocabulary.
