dc.description.abstract One hundred patients (66 male, 34 female) with low back pain, and suspected to have lumbar canal stenos is. They were investigated by conventional radiography and MRI. Those modalities were used to show, the accuracy and ability of each in assessing the lumbar canal stenos is and its causes. The data was collected from Military hospital and Aishab hospital department. The results revealed that, MRI demonstrated [91] cases of lumbar canal stenos is (central, lateral recesses). Beside [32] stenotic cases of neural foramen, and [9] normal cases. Conventional radiography, showed [25] stenotic cases, and [75] normal cases. All surgical findings consistent with MRI results beside questionnaire results. All the cases of the tumors were diagnosed accurately by MRI, while conventional failed to achieve this result, due to superior sensitivity of MRI to soft-tissue pathology. The study, concluded that, MRI has a high accuracy in assessing lumbar canal stenos is, which is caused by disc herniations and tumors. So MRJ is superior to conventional radiography, in evaluating the lumbar canal narrowing and its causes. Finally, the study recommend further evaluation of the relationship between the rice factor, the shortness of the pedicles, and the short laminae, that are nearly parallel to the posterior elements of the vertebral bodies, and their association with the lumbar canal narrowing. en_US
