Abstract:
Heart failure is a complex , clinical syndrome of signs and symptoms that are caused by defect in cardiac structure, function or both which lead to impairment of peripheral circulation and organ oxygenation . so heart failure affecting mllions of patients world wide and lead to increasing mortality rates among patients .This study was conducted to measure serum level of pro- BNP and evaluate its role in the diagnosis of heart failure in Sudanese patients .50 blood samples were collected from patients during period from August to December 2017, chosen randomly from healthy insurance – cardiac center in Elyitona hospital in khartoum state. And 50 individuals as control group to evaluate and estimate serum pro BNP in heart failure patients . Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay method used to s estimate serum NT –pro BNP concentration, and results were analyzed using statistical package for social science (SPSS) and Minitab and Ecxel computer programs .
The study showed that the mean of NT-pro BNP was significantly increase (P.Value 0.000) for heart failure patients .
Mean± SD for cases versus control :
(4936±7.5 versus 227± 8.6) pg\ml
The study also showed there was significant positive correlation between BNP and NYHA classes (P.Value =0.000 , r=0.618 ).
Also the study showed there was a negative correlation between BNP and ejection fraction and left atrium size (P.Value =0.012 r=- 0.439 ) and (P.Value =0.001 r= - 0 . 45) respectively .
The study showed there was no correlation between BNP and age (P,Value=0.309 r =0.145).
It is concluded that the serum NT –pro BNP was significantly increased in heart failure patient , also significant correlation between BNP and NYHA classes .
