Abstract:
In this study the physicochemical properties of natural and foam purified Acaciasenegal var. senegalgum were compared.
The results of analysis show the following values:
Moisture content for purified gum 8.16% whereas that for natural gum was 9.4%. Ash content was found to be 3.49% for natural gum and 3.58% for the purified sample. Intrinsic viscosity for natural and purified gum were16.5ml/g, 14.5ml/g respectively. Purified gum has specific rotation of -31.5, whereas that for natural was found to be -30.96. Nitrogen content for natural and purified gum were found to be 0.49% and 0.35% respectively. Acid equivalent weights and uornic acid for natural and purified gum was found to be 1809.2, 9.2%, and 1345.2, 13.08% respectively.PH for natural and purified gum was found to be 5.08 and 5.05 respectively.
Cationic composition studies show that potassium have the highest concentration for both natural and purified gum (945.90ppm and 115.56ppm), followed by calcium (709.20ppm and 93.50ppm), magnesium (215.90ppm and 25.24ppm), sodium (6.70ppm and 1.36ppm), zinc (2.05ppm and 0.057ppm), and Lead (0.75ppm and 0.032ppm).
Sugars content show that, galactose content of natural and purified gum were 16.12% and 16.54% and arbinose content 12.28% and 22.66%, while rhaminose were found to be 13.98% and 11.40%.
