Abstract:
Three medicinal plants namely; Acacia nilotica (bark), Rumex
vesicariuos (roots) and Adansonia digitata were subjected to phytochemical
studies to investigate their flavonoids .
The plant material in each case was extracted by ethanol to give a crude
product. The three crude products were subjected to column chromatography
and isolated by thin layer chromatography. The isolated compounds were
subjected to IR, UV, 1HNMR and mass spectrometry.
The spectral data indicated that the flavonoid of Acacia nilotica
(compound I) is a dihydroflavonol. Antibacterial studies indicated that
compound I is active against some (G+ , G- ) bacteria.
