Abstract:
Platelet concentrates is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets as a concentrated source, which contains several different growth factors and other cytokines that can stimulate healing of soft tissue , platelets has important function to stop bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries and therapeutically to treat active bleeding or prophylactically to prevent spontaneous bleeding.
Aim: Five days In vitro assessment of platelets count and indices in platelets concentrates before transfusion.
Materials and Methods: Analytical comparative study obtained at Sudan University of Science and Technology in period from March 2016 and April 2017, the practical work was performed in the Central Blood Bank in Khartoum state. Fifty units of Platelet concentration (PC) from healthy volunteer were prepared and stored at temperature of 22 0 C ,the platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) were done by automated cell counter. A pre-designed check list was recorded and data was analyzed using SPSS.
Results: The study showed that, platelets count found declining from day 1 to day 5 but difference was only significant between day 3& 4 and 4& 5, (p : . Also Mean Platelets Volume increasing from day 1 to day 5, statistically significant difference in MPV was found between day 2& 3and day 3&, 4 and day 4 and day 5 (P: and Platelets Distribution Width increasing from day 1 to day 5 ,statistically significant difference in PDW was found between day 2& 3and day 3&,4 and day 4 and day 5 (P: . Conclusion: The Platelet count was significantly decreased in PC unit at day 4 and 5.The mean Platelet volume (MPV) was started to increase at day 3, 4 and day 5, the platelet distribution width (PDW) was significant increased at day3, 4 and day 5 and no association between the type of blood group and platelets count and its indices
