This study was conducted to define the normal pancreatic texture (density) and the steatotic pancreas using Multi-detecters computed tomography. Pancreatic steatosis is an increasing problem due to the increasing incidence of obesity, aging, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
This study was conducted at The radiology departments of King Abdul-Aziz specialist Hospital in Taif City Saudi Arabia, Yastbshroon Health Care Center and Albogaa Hospital Khartoum-Sudan at Radiology department during the period from Aug 2014 to June 2017.
The data were collected from(300)subjects127(46%)were males 173(54%)were females with mean ages between (25-64) and there were 150 consider as control group and 150 consider as case group. patients age, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), pancreases head CT number, pancreas body CT number, pancreas tail CT number, spleen CT number, liver CT number and glucose level test for both groups as well as diabetic duration for the affected patients were recorded, measurement were made and comparison took place between the normal control group and affected patients. Data were presented as mean and standard deviation (SD) for all of the variables. Comparisons between groups showed results which were significant at P < 0.05.
The study showed that the age class more than 65years old (44.7%) was most affected with the diabetes. comparison between normal and diabetic samples showed that Pancreas texture which was evaluated as Hounsfield was 33.62± 7.99forhead, 30.69 ± 13.57 for pancreases body and 29.03± 13.12 for pancreases tail in control group and 29.62± 12.58for head 30.69± 13.57for body and 25.78 ± 14.61for tail in case group.
A significant relations was detected for pancreas head CT number, spleen CT number ,visceral fat and glucose level test in case group and head , tail CT number and visceral fat in case group in both gender, the classifications of measurements and CT number according to age for control group were found to be highly significant for head, body and tail for pancreas CT number (HU),spleen CT number and visceral fat with p value (0.00) . the readings of pancreas were found to be significant with age for head, body and tail for pancreas CT number (HU),spleenCT number and visceral fat, BMI and duration of the diabetes in case group ,The correlations between the pancreas characteristics and body characteristics with the visceral and glucose level test with age with duration of diabetes ,height ,weight, body mass index, tail CT number and spleen CT number.
Equations had been established to predict the obesity by calculate visceral fat, comparison between normal and diabetic samples showed that diabetes had impact on pancreas texture, increasing with long duration of diabetes |
