dc.description.abstract The breast lesions are a common diseases especially in young women less than35years whichleads to mastectomy and causesdeath. The ultrasound appearances are necessary for diagnosis and differentiate benign lesions from malignant. The main objectives of this study was todetermine the most usefulfeatureof benign and malignant, todiagnosistheearly breast lesions in dense breast tissuesandto determine the validity of ultrasound in assessbreast lesions by findsensitivity, specificityand accuracy. The data was collected from Khartoum Breast Healthcare Center and Khartoum NationalHospitalfor Tumor. A total 60 patients their age between (18-69) years with palpable breast lump diagnosed by histopathology as (44) benign and (16) malignant were scanned by an ultrasound machine (GE healthcare logiq5) with high frequency transducer (7.5-13MHZ)from august 2016 to April 2017. The result of this study revealed thatthe average age of patients with palpable breast lump FA was (26.5)years old andin benign is (42.5)years whilethe average age in malignant is (54years).The dominant sonographic features of malignant lesions were ill-define shape (93.3%), speculatedmargin (100.0%), vertical orientation width: A P ratio ≤ 1.4 (93.3%) lymph node (82.0%),vascularity increased(64.0%) and incompressible(87.5%) while in benign lump lesionswere well-define shape (96.0%),regular margin(93.5%),horizontal orientation width:APratio> 1.4 (95.0%),acoustic enhancement (95.0%),anechoic (100.0%)hyperechoic(91.0%)andisoechoric (90.0%)and compressible 97.7%.The most useful featureof benignwas compressibility andof malignant wasill-definedshape and irregular margins. Ultrasound was found to be hashigh specificity (1.00%), sensitivity (91.7%) and accuracy (93.3%)for distinguishing a malignant lesion. The use of ultrasound routinely for the initial imaging of a palpable breast lesions will improved health care, reduction of patient discomfort due to unnecessary surgical excision and reduction in morbidity and mortality. en_US
