dc.description.abstract With wireless communication becoming an integral part of human life, the improvement of the performance of any wireless network has become a topic of keen interest of the researchers. The path of propagation being wireless, the performance of the network is affected consequently by the topology and the environmental conditions of the area where the network is deployed. Hence, a study of the performance of WiMAX and WLAN network is performed .Voice over IP is expected to be low cost and popular application in the next generation communication networks. The target of this research is to analyze performance of VOIP traffic Among the most competing networks like WiMAX,Wifi. An integrated network using WiMAX backbone and WLAN hotspots has been developed and VoIP has been setup using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). OPNET 14.5 which provides a real life simulation environment is chosen as the simulation tool. Quality of the service is critically analyzed with parameters like jitter, MOS and delay for two cases, without silence suppression in the network and when silence suppression is used. Finally, it is concluded that the WiMAX-WLAN integrated network provides improved and optimal performance over WLAN and WiMAX networks with respect to network capacity and quality of service. en_US
