Abstract:
The study aims at investigating and analyzing the social classes structure during Victorian period which Charles Dickens portrays in his novel David Copperfield, The study expresses the author's society which is Victorian society in nineteenth century, Charles Dickens was much successful than predecessors in portraying the problems of industrial society, including class distinction, poverty, this analysis aims to achieve the characteristics of each class, this will be through the literary study of novel, in this regard, the research will divide into four chapters. The first chapter includes importance of research, the objectives, question that should be answered, second chapter includes historical and cultural background about Victorian society, it also discusses the life and author's work, its aim is to portray the Victorian society, how social novel draw society issues, Third chapter focuses to analyze novel and criticize Victorian society, and show the social class and its conflict. Fourth chapter involves conclusion. Key words: Victorian society, David Copperfield, social classes, class distinction.
