Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the role of MRI pulse sequenses in ischemic stroke , to examine the efficiency of four MRI sequence which was routinely used T1weighted image,T2 weighted image,T2flair weighted image and advanced Diffusion weighted image.
And to determine the changes of signal intensity that happen on each sequence according to the change of the infarction age, from hyper acute to chronic stages.
23 patient underwent to MRI examination diagnosed as ischemic stroke according to their symptoms ,4 were women and 19 were men ranged between 45-90 years old. Classified the sample to the four stages according to the duration of the onset hyperacute (0- 24 hours), (1-7 days), subacute (1-3weeks) and ( >3weeks) on chronic stage.
This study was performed on Modern Medical Centre– Khartoum in MRI department ,the machine used was GE signa Hde 1.5 tesla and the sequences done as mentioned above.
this study optained significant result which were matched the result of previous studies and some references of that MRI was the best examination on ischemic stroke , had ability to detect ischemic stroke within the minutes after the onset of the symptoms using the Diffusion Weighted Image (DWI). in this study DWI revealed hyper intensity in the early stage of the infarction and degraded to the hypo intensity in the chronic stage.
T2flair weighted image was found to be high sensitivity in ischemic stroke within 6 hour after the onset. But with low intensity than DWI , increased within the age of the infarction.
Where T1Weighted Image and T2 Weighted Image had low sensitivity to ischemic stroke in the acute stage.
