Every year approximately one in three students drop out of high school in accordance to Smith and Thomson (2014) and this is an escalating problem, especially in the light of grown cancer in relation to economic and social challenges. The high drop-out and low graduation rates, as well as increased discipline problems and disenfranchisement between students, show that the traditional school is not effective for teaching students. As a consequence, school systems have developed alternative programs to respond to this problem and supported students’ needs. In a national survey 64 % districts reported to have at least one alternative school or program for the risk of students: these programs served 646,500 students in the United States (porowski, Conner, Luo, 2014), and reflects the sharp trend to alternative education. Even though, many students tend to public education, alternative education is more helpful for students, due to flexibility of alternative education, and the strong programs given by it. Although many people thinking that public education is more suitable for students and is fixed on systems, alternative education is more flexible to meet student needs and is only fixed on the student. The curricula of these schools are different when it comes to meeting different learning needs. For example, different alternative programs may be designed for students with disabilities, students with high risk health behaviors, and students seeking vocational and technical education (Porowski, Conner, Luo, 2014). Furthermore, alternative education begins with diagnostic steps to identify academic skills and after this, begins the teaching and learning from “where the student is?” and moves ahead, so that it is tailored learning to suit the needs of the individual student (schargel consulting group, 2011). Thus, alternative education is more adaptive to students, in accordance to their state and level. While traditional education has many programs, alternative education has the opportunity for students to get a better education and experiment. Alternative education represents different environments, allowing students to succeed as Porowski and others state about alternative education. In addition, there are many ways to become educated, as well as many types of environments and structures within which it is may occur (2014, 2). This type of education gives children a chance to better their knowledge and an opportunity to learn with students from different backgrounds (Thompson, 2012). Moreover, while public schools are large schools, alternative schools are small and have smaller class sizes that allow students to receive more attention from teacher (willliams & Neal, 2016). Therefore, Alternative education is the best way to get a good education, in a good environment. Despite the fact that may think traditional education is better, alternative education provides the best opportunity for students because alternative education is more flexible to meets student needs, and is fixated on students. Also, alternative education helps students experiment educationally, in proper conditions. As a result of this alternative, education will become more popular and trendy for many students all over the world because alternative education is specifically designed for each student's needs. |
