Abstract:
This work presents the preparation, purification, identification
and biological applications of some metal phthalocyaninecomplexes MPcs (where M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu). Two methods of preparation were used in this study: Condensation of starting material in the presence of a metal salt and solvent and
non-solvent method, phthalic anhydride was used as a precursor for the preparation. The preparation includes cyclotetramerisation of the starting material in the presence of
urea as a source of nitrogen and ammonium molybdate as acatalyst at a high temperature.
Investigation of these compounds were carried out using different methods and instruments such as ultraviolet-visible,
infrared, mass spectroscopic, elemental and thermaogravimetric analyses. Magnetic susceptibility for the studied complexes has
also been determined. Antimicrobial and antitumor activities of the tested compounds were carried out using different types of
bacteria and fungi, human heptacellular Carcinoma (Hep-G2)was treated for studying these complexes as antitumor agents.
The results obtained showed that the studied complexes have been prepared and separated in a pure form; all the results are in
agreement with the electronic and chemical structures of these complexes. The biological activity results indicated that these metal
complexes are useful in photodynamic therapy (PDT) since they were showed a valuable activity against the studied cell line
(Hep-G2). Inhibition of the growth of the investigated microorganisms by the studied metal complexes mentioned the
importance of these compounds for using in medical applications.
