Abstract:
Dermatosis papulosis rugra (DPN) is a benign cutaneous condition,
characterized by multiple, pigmented papular eruption of the face and
neck clinically, the features of photo aging in Africans can include fine
wrinkling, mottled pigmentation, and DPN. The individual lesions are
asymptomatic, black or dark brown, flattened or cupuliform papules 1-5
mm in diameter size. The papules of DPN show no tendency to regress
spontaneously and the condition may be cosmetically undesirable to some
patients.
This study aimed to detect the efficacy and safety of an ablative 10,600-
nm C02 laser system, with specific laser parameters, in the treatment of
dermatosis papulosis nigra (DPN) in some Sudanese patients.
This is a prospective clinical descriptive intervention study, was
performed at Sudan University of Science and Technology, Institute of
Laser, in the laser clinic. The study was conducted from March - Augest
2014.
Ten patients ( eight females and two males) clinically diagnosed as cases
of DPN, have been included, and were considered as the study
population.
They were treated with IB-60IB C02 laser system with wavelength of
10,600nm.
All patients received the same laser parameters of C02laser, using the non
contact method, repetitive pulse 3.5 Watt power, 0.1 second duty time,
O.lsecond idle time. The aim of the C02 laser in this study was to
coagulate the melanin and concerned blood vessels in the lesions. The
frequency of treatment was single session per week for a total of two to
three sessions according to the patient need
