dc.description.abstract This was an analytical case control study conducted in Soba university Hospital during the period from February to May2016 aimed to measure the changes in platelet count and indices (PDW, MPV, and P-LCR) in Sudanese pregnant women. The study was conducted on 100 pregnant women and 60 subjects as control group(non pregnant) and agreed for participation .questionnaire was designed to collect information about the study group such as history of abortion ,number of pregnancy, age ,aspirin medication and trimester. Five ml of blood sample was collected in sterile container contain Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid anticoagulant. Platelet counts, platelet distribution width (PDW), mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR) were measured by using an automated blood cell counter (Sysmex KX-21N). Data collected was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer program version 11.5. There was no statically significant difference in MPV among pregnant woman (11.2 ± 8.4vs10.1± 0.88 FL) p.v 0.333 and P-LCR (28.7±8.5vs26.5±6.6 %)( p.v =0.098) respectively. There was statically significant difference in platelets count among pregnant lady (224.5 ± 72.2vs276.1± 75.1) ( p.v=0.000) and PDW (14±2.7vs12.7±2 fl) p.v (0.001) respectively. There was no significant effect of gravidity in platelets count ,PDW,MPV and PLCR(P.V = 0.487,PV= 0.519,P.V=0.378,P.V=0.459) respectively ,as well as no effect of aspirin medication on platelet count, PDW.MPV and P-LCR(PV= 0.733, PV= 0.815,0.688,P.V=0.659) respectively, as well as no significant effect of age on platelets count ,PDW.MPV and P-LCR(PV =0.872,PV =0.934,PV 0.368,PV =0.702) respectively There was significant effect of Abortion in platelets count (p.v=0.02), and no in PDW, MPV and P-LCR (PV=0.578,P.V= 0.379,P.V=0.302) respectively. There insignificant effect of first trimester on platelet count ,PDW ,MPV and PLCR(P.v=0.049, p.v=0.837, p.v=0.249,pv=0.296),as well as in second trimester showed insignificant effect on plts ,PDW and P-LCR (p.v=0293, p.v 0.440, p.v 0.134) respectively except in MPV show significant effect (p.v=0.037) ) , regard to third trimester show significant effect on pltscount,PDW and P-LCR(p.v=0.00, pv=0.00, pv =0.005) respectively, show insignificant effect on MPV(p.v=0.211). The study concluded there was significant effect of Pregnant on platelet count and PDW Insignificant effect of Pregnancy on MPV and P-LCR. en_US
