Abstract:
This study is retrospective and analytic study, the general objective of this study was to identify the role of DEXA scan in the diagnosis of bone density. The study was done in Khartoum state Royal Care Hospital. In period between September 2015 - to March 2016 used DEXA scan to evaluate the bone density for 50 patients, whom their ages were range between (15 – 85 year).The result demonstrates the DEXA scan is most accurate and sensitive in diagnoses of bone density. DEXA scan is most accurate and sensitive in diagnoses osteoporosis (100%) and osteopenia (100%).The sensitivity of DEXA scan was highest in case of osteoporosis diagnosis using spine rather than hip which are equal to 100% and 91.7% respectively. Oppositely for osteopenia the highest accuracy was associated with the scan of the spine where the accuracy equal 100% versus 72.7% of the hip. In conclusion the result of this study showed that t-score had strong correlation with age, which can be used with the t-score to have normal, osteopenia or osteoporosis classification score.
