Abstract:
The Sudan construction industry has long been criticized for being inefficient, unproductive, and resource consuming. This thesis proposes the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Sudan construction industry to solve these problems. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an innovative technological advancement which has played a vital role in transforming the construction industry in terms of design, construction, and management.
The thesis focuses on the different aspects of the BIM implementation process, in order to find what is needed to realize the potential benefits for the construction industry in Sudan, and how project managers can utilize BIM in construction projects to gain the maximum benefits.
The descriptive method was conducted for the purpose of this study. Questionnaires accompanied by interviews were used as data collection tools. The collected data have been analyzed using SPSS software for questionnaire collected data, and thematic analysis for interviews responses.
From the outputs of data analysis it is observed that, by adopting BIM process and providing BIM training for architects and engineers, the construction industry in Sudan could use BIM tools to defeat its problems. The issues identified in literature would contribute to accelerating the adoption of BIM in the Sudan construction industry, especially for designers and contractors. Further research in this area is required.
