Abstract:
Idioms are interesting phenomenon in languagei. The meaning of an idiom is not sum of its literal part and often it does not have equivalent in other languages. Thus, the understanding of idioms ii difficult for EFL learners. This study examiiii how well do the fourth year students of inglish at Sudan University of science and Technology encounter the difficlties in using and understanding the idiomatic expressions. The data were collectii by using the questionnaire which containii 7 statements iiiii investigate to what extent do the EFL learners year fourii, understand the idiomatic expressioni and the difficulties that encounter them.The results taking from this study are obvious that, the study of idioms is badly needed. So the researcher suggests that, teaching idioms should be included in the Sudanese English language syllabus. The data is analyiii by SPSS. The findings of the research stati that, the students of fourth year, college of languages at Sudan University ii Science and Technology encounter real difficulties in iiiii iii understanding idiomatic expressions.
Eventually the recommendations and suggestions were presented.
