Abstract:
We want to establish some preliminary data of our population in U. A .E
.
We determined to do an ultrasonographic kidney dimensions in
individuals without known renal disease . We assessed whether age, sex,
side and body mass index, affect the renal volume.
Ultrasonographic kidney measurements were performed on 50 patients
without known kidney diseases . Measurements include length, width and
thickness estimation of the renal volume which is obtained by multiplying
the three variables by 0.52 .
The factors age ,sex, side and body mass index are statistically analyzed .
The mean right kidney length is (10.5cm) the mean kidney width is
(4.6cm) .the mean depth is (4.1 cm). The mean left kidney length is (
10.8cm) the mean kidney width is ( 4.8cm) the left kidney depth is (4.3cm )
The mean right kidney volume is (105 cm3) according to the equation
(L*W*D *0.52) .The left Kidney mean volume is (118cc) refer to table (1
& 2 ) P(55 & 56 ). length did not significantly differ between right and left,
however, kidney width in the right kidney are smaller than the left one . In
many related studies , the mean renal volume correlated with age, sex, side
and BMI , however , the only significant factors affecting the renal volume
are sex , age and BMI.
We conclude our study that the renal volume is directly proportion with
the BMI while it is inversely proportion with the age , in males the volume
is bigger than in females while the left side is bigger than the right one .
