dc.description.abstract The power based cellular phone positioning system is one of the methods which could be used to find the approximate location of the cellular phone user, in this research a new simulator for locating the cellular phone user based on the transmitted power has been developed using MATLAB, firstly this simulator calculates the distance between the mobile station and the base transceiver station based on the propagation loss of the transmitted signal, then the simulator determine the intersection of three circles with the sectors locations as the circles' centers and the distance form each sector as the radii, this intersection represents the location of the cellular phone user, many experiments has been done using this simulator, Global Positioning System (GPS) has been used as reference for verifying the results obtained via this simulator, there are deviations between the results obtained using (GPS) and the results obtained using the Power based cellular phone positioning simulator , the maximum deviation was 1.22 Km the minimum deviation was 0.08 Km, and the average deviation is 0.475 Km, for many location based services there is an accepted limit of deviation, although the proposed simulator achieve minimum error of 80m which is very acceptable of wide range of location based services but the simulator deviation in experiments 6 is 1.22 which is not acceptable for many other location based services, the average obtained error is acceptable for many location based services like friend finder, crises announcement, thus the overall evaluation for this simulator is good. en_US
