dc.description.abstract This study was done to detect sero prevalence of syphilis among pregnant women in Jebel AwliaTeaching Hospital. Hundred serum samples were collected from pregnant women with different age (18-41 years).The work was carried out in the department of gynecology and obstetrics in Jebel AwliaTeaching Hospital from May to July 2014. All specimens were tested by Rapid Plasma Regain test (RPR) and then confirmed by Enzyme Linked Immune Sorbent Assay(ELISA), 5% were positive when tested by RPR but 6% were positive when confirmed by ELISA. The result of the study prevalence of syphilis among pregnant women was (6%). According to the age 2%,3% were found positive in the age 30-35year, 24-29year, respectively when tested by RPR and 1%,2%,3% were positive in18-23year,30-35 year, 24-29 year respectively when confirmed by ELISA. 40% of pregnant women had previous abortion, 4% 0f them were positive to syphilis, while 60% had no previous abortion but 2% were syphilis positive. Our finding suggests that the routine screening for syphilis should be necessary to prevent the serious complications of disease in the mother and the fetus. en_US
