dc.description.abstract The present study aims to investigating affixation awareness among Sudanese university students of English. The aims of this study are to make the students differentiate between prefixes and suffixes clearly, to make them recognize the parts of speech through affixes and to make them have a complete awareness of affixation. This study focuses on three hypotheses. These are: students have a little awareness of affixes; students don’t always differentiate between prefixes and suffixes and students don’t recognize parts of speech through affixes. The researcher has followed the quantitative analytical method to analyze the results. To confirm or reject the hypotheses of the study, the researcher used one tool which was a test for students of English of the third year at Sudan University of Science and Technology; the sample of the study was 50 students. The results of the study showed that Students have a general background about affixation. However they do not always differentiate between suffixes and prefixes. They sometimes get confused when and cannot decide whether they are using prefixes or suffixes, In addition they have a very weak background knowledge about how to recognize the parts of speech through affixes. en_US
