Abstract:
Descriptive cross-sectional hospital based study was conducted in the Nile-east model and Khartoum teaching hospital, Khartoum state during the period from march 2014 to august 2014 . In order to estimate vitamin D, calcium and phosphate levels in Sudanese patients with hypertension. Eighty eight subjects were enrolled in this study, and then classified based on vitamin D results into three groups (group normal vitamin D, group deficient vitamin D and group sever deficient vitamin D). The group of normal vitamin D consider as control group.
Vitamin D was estimated using Euroimmum 25-oH vitamin D competitive ELISA kits, calcium was estimated by spectrophotometric method and phosphate was estimated using phosphomolybdic acid method, and results data obtained were analyzed using (SPSS version 16).
The results showed that female hypertensive patients are more susceptible to vitamin D deficient (81%) than male hypertensive patients (45.7%). There was no significant (p-value >0.05)change in the mean of serum calcium and phosphate level in hypertensive vitamin D deficient patients classified according to gender, age and body mass index. Based on these results, monitoring of serum vitamin D should be useful and recommended measure in hypertensive patients regularly.
Concluded, more studies are needed to evaluate the possible effect of vitamin D, calcium and phosphate levels with hypertension.
