Abstract: | This research is aiming to find out the actual operation capacity and level of service of EBEID KHATIM Road intersections, which were controlled by pre-timed traffic signal type. And then find appropriate design for the road, in term of operation, and road geometric design. The analysis procedures adopted to evaluate intersections were synchro, and HCS software program. Intersection evaluation elements assigned to be as main factor to determine the capacities was delay of vehicle per second that traffic spent at every intersection.Informations assisting evaluation were collected in term of operation daily, traffic volumes, and peak hourly volume, traffic signals phase type , applied cycle length and its parts of green, yellow and red times. In term of geometric design we identified lane width, and number of lanes. The intersections data were processed using both synchro and HCS software program to each intersections of the road. The evaluation based to minimum level of service C for its urban location. As result of analysis we found that OMACK intersection only had acceptable level of service (C), and EL-BALADIA, NASIR, AL-MASHTAL, AL-SHARQI, AL-BALABIL,and EL-MARKAZ EL-ISLAMI intersections had LOS as follow (E),(D),(F),(F),(F),(F), were failed to conformance to desired level of service. So both geometrical and functional adjustment has been taken to remedy the conflicts. The geometrical adjustments include pavement width widening and establishing of additional roadway lanes, exclusive right and left tuning movement traffic lanes were applied. The functional treatments were changing of phase categories, prolonging and distributing cycle length duration. These treatments upgraded the road intersections LOS as follow (C), (C), (B), (C), (C), (C), (C), and the road LOS to be (B). Challenges met to via trials to bring intersections that its level of service out of specification is land use so we should take all obstacles out and compensate to provide land at right of way limits. |
