Abstract: | The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of shelterbelts on the farms in Ad Dawm village north Elgiely city, Khartoum State the methods followed to achieve this objective are: Preparation of simple questionnaire, informal interview, reviews of document, visits and observations. Ad Dawm village is always subjected to sand dunes because it is located in semi-arid zone. This problem threatened population and makes them seek for solution by planting and maintaining trees as shelterbelts around the farms through co-operation of local communities. The study found the following results: - Shelterbelts provide protection to villages and farms to a high degree. - Shelterbelts around the farms increase the productivity of the crops. - Shelterbelts contribute and provide a good chance to the natural forests to be established. - Establishment of shelterbelts through communal activities increases the awareness of local communities about the protection 0f their environment. |
