Abstract: The study investigated the allelopathic effect of leachates extracted from the leaves and roots of Acacia seyal var seyal Brenan, Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Del, Eucalyptus microtheca F. V. M. and Ziziphus spinachristi (L.) Desf on the seed germination and early growth of Prosopis juliflora (Swartz) D.C. The study comprised of two experiments. The first experiment, leachates of the leaves and roots were prepared to 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% concentrations using the common method (Mohammed, 2004) . Viable and treated seeds of P. juliflora were germinated in Petri dishes in optimum germination conditions (CRD). However the second experiment, leachates of the leaves and roots were prepared to 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% concentrations. Seedlings of P. juliflora were raised in white plastic cups filled with clay soil placed in a glass house according to the prescribed experimental design (CRBD) and irrigated with the leachates . Results obtained showed that there was no significant effect on the germination of the seeds or the shoot height of the seedlings which may be due to the source of species or the concentrations of the leachates.
