Abstract: | OBJECTIVE: Aim of the study was to assess the Types, Frequency & Distribution of different types of cystic ovarian lesions among Pakistani population. Duration of study was One (1) year from January 2006 to January 2007. Most of the patients belong to middle class families and most of them were symptomatic. METHODS: Hundred patients of different age and different socioeconomic conditions were scanned. Most of them were with C/O irregular periods, pain lower abdomen & infertility. The Data is collected at Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences. Each patient will be scanned twice following the international scanning guidelines & protocols first by the candidate and then by qualified sinologist. RESULTS: the age group which was most prone to develop ovarian cysts was between 20 to 30 years (45%). 80% of patients were married and about 50% was nuliparus . about 40% of the patients present with complain of irregular periods and lower abdominal pain and 15% present with infertility. Result of this study was that the simple ovarian cyst is most common type of ovarian cysts in Pakistani Population (35%) and second most common type was polycystic ovarian cyst (30%). Most of the small cysts were diagnosed on Transvaginal Ultrasound. CONCLUSION: The conclusion of the research indicates that all types of cystic, solid and complex masses are easily diagnosed with the help of Transabdominal and Transvaginal Ultrasonography. We also assess the type and severity of the disease which help us in proper management of the patients. |
