Abstract: Although information and communication technology (ICT) has gradually become a standard teaching technology in schools in many countries and regions like Chile and South Africa, the implementation of ICT in teaching and learning in Sudanese schools still fails to meet public expectations. This study is an investigation to explore the current status and implementation of ICT in Khartoum State secondary schools. The findings of this investigation are also analysed in relation to a number of selected countries (Chile, Slovenia, and South Africa). The study was confined to Khartoum State where 50 secondary schools, using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for educational purposes, were sampled. The results of this research will enable policymakers to make judgments on the current situation regarding the use of ICT in education. In addition, the information presented in this study will help them to take bold new steps to utilise and integrate ICT more intensively in Sudanese educational system. The findings of the study indicate that Sudan does not yet have the necessary infrastructure to integrate ICT into education and is well behind many countries internationally in implementing ICT into education. It is also clear that, secondary schools in Sudan need more support and guidance from the Ministry of Education in order to implement ICT effectively. However, the results show that, there is a positive, although traditional approach towards implementing ICT in Sudanese schools. Finally, recommendations for ICT implementation strategy and for furthering the goal of successful ICT integration and implementation in Sudanese schools have been made by the researcher.
