Abstract: The Present study examined the effect of tobacco smoking on lipids profile in asymptomatic healthy young. This case control study comprised of 80 healthy male subjects aging from 18–28 years. Of these 50 smokers were included in the study group and 30 non-smokers in the control group. Subject selection was done by a non-random (non-probability) sampling procedure from the students in University of Khartoum, Khartoum state. Lipids profile was performed manually by using enzymatic reaction depended reagents. The serum level of total cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL-C and HDL-C were all insignificantly high in the study group compared to the control group ( P. Value > 0.05 ). Means ± SD for smokers versus controls: (156 ± 32.2 mg/dl versus 144 ± 30.3 mg/d); for serum total cholesterol (81 ± 49.1 mg/dl versus 65 ± 29.1 m ); for Serum Triglycerides (82 ± 30.1 mg/dl versus 79 ± 31.8 mg/dl); for Serum LDL-C (57 ± 13.3 mg/dl versus 51 ± 7.8 mg/dl); for Serum HDL-C The present study, has not found any significant statistical difference between smokers and non-smokers students in terms of fasting lipid profile probably because Smokers registered for our study did not have a long smoking duration record.
