dc.description.abstract | Five medicinal plants widely used in Sudanese system of traditional medicine have been investigated for constituents by GC-MS analysis. The oils from these plant species have been extracted by maceration and their antimicrobial potential has been evaluated. Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry has been used for the identification and quantification of Xemania aegyptiaca oil. The analysis revealed the presence of 34 components dominated by: cis-13-eicosanoic acid methyl ester(13.78%) .Commiera africana oil was studied by GC-MS. The GC-MS analysis showed 61 constituents. Major component is :(1S,2E,4S,5R,7E,11E) - cembra-2,7,11- trien-4,5-diol (20.62%) . Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry has been used for the identification and quantification of Trachyspermum ammi oil. The analysis revealed the presence of 11 components dominated by:9-octadecenoic acid (Z)-, methyl ester(61.11%) .Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry analysis of Vangueria madagascarinsis oil showed 19 components dominated by: 9 , 12-octadecenoic acid methyl ester (53.68%).GC-MS analysis of Vigna subterrenea oil revealed the presence of 30 components dominated by:13-docosenoic acid methyl ester(31.47%).The target oils showed different inhibition zones in the antimicrobial assay. | en_US |
