In this study the oils from five plants of medicinal attributes (Cassiasiama, Cordia Africana, Poliostiyma themigii ,Detarium microcarpumand Aristolochia bracteolate ) have been investigated by GC.MS and theantimicrobial activity has been screened. The GC-MS analysis of thetargetoilsrevealedthepresenceofboth9-octadecenoicacidmethylester and 9,12-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester as major constituents infourspecies(Cassiasiama,CordiaAfricana,Poliostiymathemigii,Detariummicrocarpum).However,Aristolochiabracteolateoilcontained9-octadecenoic acid methyl ester while 9,12-octadecadienoicacid methyl ester was absent in this sample. All thefive studied oilscontainedhexadecanoicacidmethylesterasoneofthemajorconstituents.Methylstearatehavebeendetectedinallstudiedoilsexcept Detarium microcarpum. All the target oils have been assessed fortheir antimicrobial activity and differentantimicrobial responses havebeenrecorded.en_US
