dc.description.abstractThis study aimed at Investigating the barriers encountered by undergraduate students in dealing with linguistic competence .The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method . A questionnaire and test were used as a tool for collecting data from the participants in the University .The test was administered to the 70 third year students at Sinnar University – Faculty of education . Also 30 English language teachers from Sinnar , Jazira and El Quran Elkareem Universities were participated in the questionnaire .The data was analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS).The results of the study showed that, Grammatical items are the most linguistic barriers for undergraduate students . Using different aids develop University students competence, productive skills are more problematic for University students than receptive skills. The study recommended that : University teachers should encourage their students to know grammatical rules of English language, communicative activities must designed well to raise students’ communicative competence, teaching productive skills need great effort from University teachers and University students should practice linguistic items to develop their competence. And The study is concluded by some suggestions for further studies .en_US
