Abstract: | This study aims at exploring basic school teachers' knowledge of techniques used to teach vocabulary. Pupils of basic stage find it difficult to learn vocabulary. Different techniques used ineffectively by different teachers caused the problem. On the other hand, the study aims at identifying the relevant techniques used to help pupils comprehend vocabulary effectively. The analytical method is used to analyze the data by applying statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) programme. The study came up with the following result: English language teachers accustom to use ineffective or irrelevant techniques. The researcher highlighted the following recommendations: English language teachers need to adopt a variety of vocabulary related techniques and provide pupils with sufficient time to practice vocabulary inside classroom |
