Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the IL-10 in hepatitis B patients in Khartoum State. The case-control study was conducted in Military Hospital and Ultra Lab for having serum in Khartoum in the period from September 2019 until December 2019. Thirty six blood samples were collected from HBs Ag positive patients (test group) and thirty six from healthy individuals (Control group). Sera were separated and IL-10 was measured using sandwich ELISA. The study revealed an increase in the mean of serum IL-10 in patient group (13.9 ± 27.4) when compared to control group (3.1 ± 2.9). Statistically, there was a significant relationship between increased level of IL-10 and hepatitis B virus infection (p value 0.02). The highest concentration of IL-10 in patients group was 127.1 ng/ml and the lowest was 2.4 ng/ml, while the highest concentration in control group was 7 ng/ml and the lowest one was 0.3 ng/ml. From the result of this study, it is suggested to use IL-10 as monitoring biomarker for hepatitis B patients.
