Abstract: Thisstudydealswith structural design of flexible and rigid highway pavements using American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) method. A Computer program with visual basic software was developed for AASHTO method entitled GIPAVE program. The purpose was to determine flexible and rigid pavement structural design thicknesses. The case study included a section of the Almoner – Alsaffaya highway which is part of the urban highway network. Thickness of the pavement was computed using manual method and thereafter verified by the results obtained from GIPAVE program. Results were adopted compared with those obtained by manual solutions this comparison was very satisfactory with only less thanonly 8%. Structural numbers for flexible pavement weredetermined from AASHTO nomograph. The developed spread sheets could not only be used in pavement design, but also can be used as teaching tool for its simplicity; ease of use and straightforwardness. These will avoid the use of tedious nomgraphs and trial and error techniques involved in the design procedures.
