In our search for structurally and biological interesting compounds from plants growing in Sudan, a flavonoid has been isolated from Mitragyna inermis barks. This plant is used in many countries by traditional medicine practitioners for the treatment of various human disorders. In this study , stem barks of Mitragyna inermis were extracted with 95% ethanol and the crude extract was fractionated over silica gel plates to yield a chromatographically pure flavonoid – compound I. The structure of the isolated compound has been partially characterized by its spectral data (UV and 1HNMR). On the basis of its spectral data, the isolated flavanone was assigned the following partial structure:en_US
