Abstract: In this study three potential medicinal plants (Acacia nilotica subsp. nilotica , Acacia polyacantha and Leptadenia pyrotechnica) have been investigated. Four flavonoids have been isolated and their partial structures have been deduced on the basis of their spectral data. Phytochemical screening of Acacia nilotica subsp. nilotica seed revealed the presence of alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, tannins and saponins. The following partial structure was proposed for compound I isolated from this species: The ethyl acetate ,ethanol, n-butanol and chloroform fractions showed moderate to partial activity in the antimicrobial test. Phytochemical screening of Leptadenia pyrotechnica leaves revealed the presence of alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, tannins and saponins. The following partial structure was proposed for compound II isolated from this species: O OCH3 OCH3 CH3 CH3 O OH OCH3 CH3 CH3 O Sugar v However, all fractions of this species failed to show inhibitory effect in the antimicrobial assay. Phytochemical screening of Acacia polyacantha stem revealed the presence of alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, and saponins. The following partial structure was proposed for compound III isolated from stems this species: Different fractions of Acacia polyacantha stem showed moderate to partial antimicrobial responses against test organisms. The following partial structure was proposed for compound IV isolated from Acacia polyacantha leaves: All fractions of Acacia polyacantha leaves showed significant activity against some test organisms
