Abstract: The flavonoids of two key species in Sudanese ethnomedicine have been investigated and three compounds (I-III) have been isolated. CompoundI wasisolatedfrom Combretum aculatum roots viapaperchromatography, while compounds II and III were isolated from the leaves of Dichrostachys cinerea. The structures of these flavonoids have been partially characterized by their spectral data (UV and 1HNMR). Compound I Compound II Compound III The methanolic extract of Combretum aculeatum was assessed for its antimicrobial activity. It showed significant activity against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also showed moderate activity against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The extract also exhibited significant antifungal activity against the fungi: Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger (Table 1).
