Venous thromboembolism ( VTE ) is a disease due to the formation of blood clots inside the veins, it has two forms either DVE or PE which is more dangerous . This study is to assess the compliance rate of VTE prophylaxis using essential safety requirements, and it's well known that this disease is responsible for significant number of hospital mortalities and morbidities ( 1 in every 4 hospital deaths ) . This study was done at King Abdul-Aziz Specialist Hospital, it's 500 beds , in the last quarter of 2018 This study is a descriptive analytic study without direct intervention to the patients with screening of patient’s medical records retrospectively . The sample selected through simple random selection ( lottery) and the sample size was 519 from total of 957 medical record ( 54.2% ). In the results of this study it was found that 436 ( 84 % ) of medical records had been screened and the appropriate prophylaxis was prescribed , on the other hand 83 ( 16%) medical records were found to be not screened for VTE and the females were found to be more than males and the outcome was worse in those with high risk level .The SPSS program was used to analyze the data with confidence level more than 95% and P value < 0.05 , a significant relationship was found between the level of risk and outcome, as the level of risk is increased the outcome became more bad and also with increased age ( patients with age > 75 years are the majority of bad outcomes) .en_US
