Abstract: | Patriotism is regarded a fundamental source of inspiration for the people in defending their countries and desire for self-sacrifice to achieve liberty. The writers in the Russian and English Literatures clearly stated this idea in their literary works. Both of Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) and Ernest Miller Hemingway (1899-1961) addressed the theme of Patriotism in depth in their respective literary works of War and Peace and A Farewell to Arms. Leo Tolstoy and Ernest Hemingway in their works tackled the idea of patriotism through war from a modern perspective. The View of Tolstoy and Hemingway is based on modern interpretations for the negative and positive effects of war on people. Further, both of them envisioned Patriotism as a source of inspiration for achieving the sublime goals during wartime. The study analyzes Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace (1869) and Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms (1929) according to the post-colonial approach.
