Diabetes is most common cause of renal failure. Thepurpose of study is measurement of renal size in diabetic patients. The study was conducted in Ultrasound department at Hassaheasa Hospital and tow private clinics. 83 diabetic patients were enrolled in the study. Ultrasound was performed for all patients and the kidney size (length and width) as well as echogenicity and corticomedullary differentiation(CMD) were evaluated. The result of the study revealed that the mean and SDof the Rt kidney length was (10.2 ± 1.06) and ranged between (8 -14). The mean and SDof the Rt kidney width was (4.28 ± 0.66), the mean Lt kidney length (10.51 ± 1.06)and the mean Lt kidney width (4.75 ± 0.73). The study found that 90.4 % of the patients have normal kidney texture, 8.4% have hyperchogenicity kidney texture and 1.2% has hypoechogenicity kidney texture. Also found that 91.6% of patientshave normal (good) CMD and 8.4% of patients have poor CMD. There was no significant correlation between duration and both kidney length. However there was a significant correlation between duration and both kidney width. Furthermore, most cases showed normal echogenicity 90.4 % of the patients havenormal kidney texture and most ofthem have normal (good) CMD. Assessment of renal volume should be part ofroutine evaluation of all patients with diabetes at firstdiagnosis as well as follow-up evaluation of thesepatients. This may help in the early detection of anyrenal disorder in these patients.en_US
