Abstract: Traditional IP networks are complex and very hard to manage. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging paradigm that promises to change this state of affairs, separating the network’s control logic from the underlying routers and switches, promoting centralization of network control, and introducing the ability to program the network. SDN create and introduce new abstractions in networking, simplifying network management and facilitating network evolution. This research evaluates the performance of MPLS over SDN. Through different network simulation experiments using realistic network scenarios in mininet and GNS3 environments, this research provides an insight into the MPLS performance over SDN in comparison with MPLS over traditional networks the performance of these scenarios is evaluated by using nping tool to investigate that the SDN networks can meet the basic function of traditional networks, Parameters that indicate such as end to end delay, packets delay variation, and throughput are obtained and analyzed in these scenarios. After analyzing the results, it is clearly found that the efficiency of software defined network is out performing the traditional network i.e. the average response time is 00.448 ms in SDN while 93.761 ms in the traditional network, the average round trip time In traditional network is at least 100 double compared to SDN in both UDP and TCP and the packets loss is 00.10 % in the SDN comparing with 00.00% in the traditional network.
